Prevention Of Motion Sickness
As motion sickness is much simpler to prevent than cure once it has started. The best treatment is prevention. The following points may help check the sour signs of motion sickness before they happen.
. Refrain reading whilst traveling.
. Tour in an area that grants the eyes to see the same motion that the body and inner ears sense.
. Uphold a decent straight-ahead view.
. Munch a light snack before traveling, or if already nauseated, skip the meal altogether.
. Avoid watching or conversing to another traveler who is having motion sickness.
. Take motion sickness medicine at least 30-60 minutes before travel starts. Or as prescribed by a doctor.
. Always sit in a spot so that the eyes can see the same motion that the body and inner ear feels.
. In a car, sit in the front seat and look at the distant landscape.
. Do not sit in a seat facing backward.
. Do not observe or gossip with another traveler who is having motion sickness.
. Avoid strong odors and spicy or greasy foods immediately before and during travel.
. Have a home remedy handy or try alternative therapies.
Treatment and Drugs
Several drugs exist for the cure of motion sickness. Most of these prevent the onset of symptoms. Also, many induce sleepiness and dry mouth. So operating machinery or a vehicle isn’t permitted whilst taking such medicines.
If you’re still bugged by the above sickness, you can discuss with your doctor about the following drugs. Do tell your doctor about symptoms, if you’re allergic to these below. Also, let him know about your history of medicines and diseases.
. Dimenhydrinate (Dramamine)
This antihistamine, used to ease allergies, helps with balance, too. One should take the first dose about an hour before traveling and in every 4 to 6 hours.
. Scopolamine (Maldemar)
This is a prescription drug. You wear a patch behind the ear. You have to apply it 4 hours before needed and a dose lasts 3 days.
Other drugs include:
. Cyclizine (Mare-zine, Emoquil)
. Meclizine (Anti-vert, Bo-nine)
. Promethazine (Phenadoz, Phenergan, Promethegan)
Note. All have side effects, including drowsiness.
